West Africa is stepping up on Carbon Markets
The 2025 West Africa Carbon Market Hub (WACMH), held in Pointe Sarène, Senegal, brought together over 300 participants – governments, experts, project developers, investors and civil society – to advance regional cooperation and action on carbon markets. Building on the momentum of the first edition in Abidjan, this year’s Hub marked a major step forward in positioning West Africa as an active player in global carbon markets. Over three intensive days, discussions ranged from Article 6 readiness, ITMO authorization, digital transformation, and new credit types to practical solutions in energy, transport, waste and nature-based approaches. The Hub culminated in a joint declaration by West African governments, sending a strong message of collective commitment to leverage carbon markets for climate action and sustainable development. 📖 The official report is now available – capturing the key insights, lessons and next steps that will shape the region’s engagement in high-integrity, inclusive carbon markets.
