Alliance Carbon Neutrality

The Alliance members, country representatives and mandated experts meet regularly, involving significant air travel.

The WAA is aware of the emissions generated by these flights and has consequently embarked on the process of assessing options to compensate for the negative environmental impact caused. Going forward, the possibility of reducing air travel or relying more routinely on virtual meetings and conference calls will be investigated while remaining emissions from essential travel will be compensated accordingly.

The WAA adopted an ambitious approach to compensating for environmental damage done by air travel, also considering the release of other pollutants (nitrogen, carbon monoxide, water vapour and soot) at higher altitudes. The translation from total emissions to the corresponding environmental compensation budget is done by applying the World Bank’s Shadow Price of Carbon (SPC).
