Gambie

The Gambia commits to reducing GHG emissions as per its NDC 3.0, with a more ambitious targets consistent with the national Long-Term Climate-Neutral Development Strategy 2050 (LT-LEDS). The NDC translates LT-LEDS to measurable actions and implementation priorities for the period to 2035. It commits to reducing its GHG emissions by 31.9% below the 2035 reference scenario. This translates to an overall GHG emissions reduction of 3,571.55 ktCO₂e/year.

The Gambia intends to use Article 6 of the Paris Agreement in achieving the NDC targets. The country will be a host country for mitigation activities aiming to protect the planet by meeting standards that deliver real, permanent, additional and verified mitigation outcomes that contribute to sustainable development, while avoiding the double counting of emissions reductions.

L'énergie

• Deploy at least 25,000 high-efficiency residential air-conditioning units by 2035.
• Achieve cumulative deployment of approximately 1,000,000 LED lamps by 2035.
• Enable approximately 90,000 households to adopt LPG stoves by 2035.
• Deploy approximately 256,500 efficient electric cooking appliances by 2035.
• Commission approximately 300 MW of additional grid-connected solar PV capacity by 2035.
• Apply HVAC efficiency improvements across approximately 3.5 million m² of floor area by 2035.
• Replace approximately 2,000 grid-electric agricultural pumps with solar PV pumps by 2035.

IPPU

• Implement the validated national HFC phase-down pathway and increase penetration of lower-GWP alternatives through 2035.
• Operate a national refrigerant licensing and quota system covering regulated refrigerants and importers.
• Establish and maintain a national equipment-stock and refrigerant-bank.

AFOLU

• Apply qualifying methane-reducing rice-management practices across approximately 30,000 ha by 2035.
• Expand zero/minimum tillage to approximately 150,000 ha by 2035.
• Establish cover-crop practices on approximately 50,000 ha by 2035.
• Protect approximately 72,000 ha of forest from modelled deforestation/degradation by 2035.

Déchets

• Establish landfill-gas recovery and power-production systems serving approximately 300 tonnes/day of relevant waste throughput by 2035.
• Recycle approximately 30,000 tonnes of plastic waste per year by 2035.
• Establish and operate the validated 2035 anaerobic digestion capacity for source-separated municipal organic waste.
• Establish approximately 10 tonnes/day of composting capacity by 2035.

The NDC 3.0 covers Energy, Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU), Agriculture, Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry (LULUCF), and Waste sectors.

The total estimated investment required over the implementation period 2026-2035 per the NDC 3.0 is USD 1.808 billion. Out of this, USD 883 million will be required for mitigation, USD 590 million will support adaptation, USD 250 million will be required for loss and damage planning, and USD 85 million will be required for cross-cutting enabling systems. In view of the mitigation investment, The Gambia will mobilize USD 254 million to meet its unconditional NDC needs and the remaining USD 629 million from international funding.
