Objectifs
Burkina Faso considers both an unconditional and a conditional scenario. For its mitigation actions, the country aims to reduce GHG emissions by 26,241.81 Gg CO₂eq by 2030, or 30.87% compared to the Business-as-Usual scenario. This includes 22.37% under the unconditional scenario and 8.50% under the conditional scenario.
Article 6 engagement
Burkina Faso plans to use Article 6 of the Paris Agreement and REDD+ through carbon markets as part of its resource mobilization strategy for the implementation of its NDC 3.0.
Activités d'atténuation
Burkina Faso’s NDC 3.0 includes 52 mitigation projects, of which 23 are unconditional and 29 conditional. Mitigation actions cover six main sectors: Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU), Energy, Transport, Industrial Processes and Product Use (IPPU), and Waste and WASH.
Key areas of action include:

Energy: renewable energy, energy efficiency and other cross-cutting energy measures.

Transport: renewal of the vehicle fleet, promotion of low-carbon transport modes and development of transport infrastructure.

Agriculture: sustainable land and ecosystem management, resilient agricultural value chains, irrigation and improved agricultural equipment and practices.

Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU): afforestation and reforestation, conservation and restoration of forests and land, agroforestry and sustainable wood-energy management.

Waste and WASH: waste and wastewater treatment, waste recovery and improved water, sanitation and hygiene services.

IPPU: improvement of industrial processes and optimization of product use.

Besoins de financement
The implementation of Burkina Faso’s NDC 3.0 requires an estimated USD 7.76 billion. Of this amount, USD 4.96 billion is allocated to unconditional actions, while USD 2.80 billion, or 36.1% of the total financing needs, is conditional on additional support.

Article 6 stratégie et règlements
Burkina Faso plans to use Article 6 cooperative approaches to finance selected conditional projects under its NDC 3.0. The country also intends to use REDD+ mechanisms for forestry and agricultural carbon projects and voluntary carbon market mechanisms.
